Psyttalia distinguenda Granger, 1949

Originally described as Opius distinguendus by Granger (1949) then subsequently placed in Psyttalia by Wharton (1997).

Psyttalia distinguenda (Granger) and Psyttalia insignipennis (Granger) were both described from Madagascar, but are readily separated from one another by the absence of an occipital carina in insignipennis. Additional information on hosts, distribution, and recognition, based on work done largely by CIRAD, was published by Wharton et al. (1999). For more general information, see the Psyttalia page.

Reared from fruits containing medfly, Ceratitis capitata, and Natal fly, C. rosa (Wharton et al. 1999) in La Reunion; but whether this species can attack both hosts still awaits confirmation.
