Taxonomic History / Nomenclature
Originally described in the genus Opius, and placed by Fischer (1987) in the subgenus Psyttalia. Psyttalia was subsequently elevated to generic rank by Wharton (1987).

Diagnosis and Relationships
Nearly identical to Psyttalia concolor.
Distribution
Originally described from Eritrea (Silvestri 1914); subsequently recorded from South Africa (Neuenschwander 1982).
Biology / Hosts
Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) is the only known host (Silvestri 1914, Fischer 1971).
