Mimirus Fischer, 1972: 70. Type species: Opius peregrinus Szepligeti, 1914: 227 (original designation).

Type locality of type species: Tanga and Kilimanjaro; primary type in Museum fuer Naturkunde der Humboldt-Universitaet, Berlin.

Originally proposed as a subgenus of Opius (Fischer 1972: 390; Fischer 1972: 70). Later treated as a synonym of Bitomus by Fischer (1987: 666)) and as a synonym of Phaedrotoma by Li et al. (2013).

The name Mimirus was first proposed by Fischer (1972: 390), but without designation of a type species. A type species was subsequently designated by Fischer (1972: 70), making the name available.

Diagnosis and Relationships
The shape of the clypeus, with median tooth on the ventral margin, together with the carapace-like metasoma, influenced Fischer (1987: 666) in his placement of the type species in Bitomus, a genus that had not been included in Opiinae in Fischer’s 1972 classification. Li et al. (2013), though noting the shape of the clypeus in the type species, unfortunately did not provide information on why they chose to include Mimirus in Phaedrotoma instead of Bitomus. Additional characters of the type species include the presence of a mesoscutal midpit, a sculptured precoxal sulcus, mandible without basal tooth or lobe ventrally, and fore wing venation about as in Fig. 8.
